McLaren Vale’s Maxwell wines has joined forces with Nimbility to build their markets across APAC.

The unique result of owner Mark Maxwell’s elbow grease and ingenuity, stubborn determination and unbending standards, Maxwell wines are the perfect blend of eccentricity and authenticity. Carved into a limestone hill at the heart of McLaren Vale and etched into its history is the Premium winery & Australia’s favourite meadery championing seasonal produce from local suppliers: all a tribute to one man’s vision and tenacity.

With strong national distribution in Australia, Maxwell has now partnered with Nimbility to develop and expand their reach and reputation across markets in Asia-Pacific.

“We are thrilled to be working with Nimbility to grow our business interests across APAC,” says Mark Maxwell. “While we have had some great success in Asia over the past 10 years, we are now looking to take things to the next level and have partnered with Nimbility to get us there. Nimbility’s highly experienced team of wine professionals, based across the region, offers us the perfect solution to expand our distribution and build the reputation and visibility of Maxwell wines in the region while offering more sales support to our clients. We are thoroughly excited about this next chapter in the Maxwell story.”

These concentrated, robust and characterful wines reflect not only the winemaker’s personality but also the extensive knowledge and understanding of the unique terroir of Maxwell’s limestone hill. The portfolio is focused predominantly on McLaren Vale’s strength varieties – Shiraz and Grenache – grown in different vineyards producing unique expressions of these highly expressive grapes. Their Shiraz collection culminates with Minotaur, a wine inspired by Maxwell estate’s conifer maze that sits in front of the winery. In ancient Greek mythology the fearsome Minotaur – a mythical creature half man / half bull – was secured in a circular maze, or labyrinth, for King Minos of Crete. The Minotaur label was created by Maxwell to convey the power and intensity contained within their iconic Reserve Shiraz.

A refreshing Eden Valley Riesling and a zesty Adelaide Hills Chardonnay offer the addition of classic white wines from South Australia to complete the range.

In addition to their award-winning wines, Maxwell is unique in producing Australia’s favourite Mead. This honey wine was introduced to Australia by Mark’s father Ken Maxwell who’s fanatic devotion to this ancient craft created the benchmark for modern mead-making around the world. Not only is mead thought to be the oldest fermented drink originating in Northern China as far back as 7,000 BC, when the ancient Greeks discovered it, they called it ‘ambrosia’: the nectar of the gods. If you’ve never tried a honey wine you couldn’t pick a better option! The range includes their original honey mead as well as a spiced version, a liqueur and a refreshing sparkling mead in can.

“We are extremely excited to be partnering with Maxwell and their downstream clients, helping to build on the hard yards that they have achieved over the past 10 years in APAC,” says Francesca Martin, Founding Partner at Nimbility. “Maxwell offers a rare and unique proposition to Asian consumers. On the one hand, a range of keenly priced, modern South Australian wines whose bold, characterful flavours make them an obvious choice. On the other, a totally outside-of-the-box offering with their range of award-winning mead, bringing something completely new to Asian consumers, who now more than ever, are looking for unique, novel and authentic products.”
