‘Glorious Greece: A Wine Odyssey’ Tselepos Wines continues its Partnership with Nimbility to further Build the Premium Greek Wine Category in China

Following last year’s successful series of events in Shanghai, Nimbility has been tasked to further build on the reputation and create awareness for three key Greek appellations: PGI Arkadia, PDO Mantinia and PDO Nemea.  Backed by  substantial funding from the EU, the strategic partnership with OEN trading Ltd, Hellas House and Tselepos Wines, a new series of events are a welcome return to business after the long lockdown in Shanghai this Spring.

This is the second year of the two-year campaign - ‘Glorious Greece: A Wine Odyssey’ spearheaded by Tselepos wines to build the premium Greek wine category in China.  This year the focus is on strengthening the reputation of world-class Greek wines in Shanghai and also in new geographies in the Tier 1 cities of Guangzhou and Chengdu, introducing PGI Arkadia, PDO Mantinia and PDO Nemea and their signature grape varieties to key industry players in the most dynamic cities in the East, South and West of China.

Hellas House, a landmark of Greek culture and lifestyle in the heart of Shanghai, acted, once again, as the spiritual home of the campaign. The vision of Pavlos and Sophia Kontomichalos, Hellas House showcases the very best of Greek culture, gastronomy and hospitality, making it the perfect location from which to host the initial series of intimate events that further introduced the program and Tselepos Wines to China’s most influential wine buyers this July.

The collaboration also with the EU promotional partner OEN Trading LTD aimed to build the availability, visibility and reputation of premium Greek wines in the China market through targeted distribution, supported by a series of tailored events and e-marketing efforts across China’s highly diverse digital landscape. The long-standing expertise of Panos Drossos in international development and promotional activities, especially in APAC, will enhance the permanent presence of the Best Greek Wines in the region.

“Last year's ‘Glorious Greece’ events were a huge success, and we've been looking forward for this year’s events to resume,” says Ian Ford, Founding Partner at Nimbility. “Our guests enjoyed a fantastic introduction to Greek wines and those three key appellations, and over the past months we have witnessed how eager they and others are to discover more about Greek wines. We're also keen to expand nationally and raise awareness of Greek wines to the whole of China, reaching new geographies in Guangzhou and Chengdu, on top of the events in Shanghai.”

Supporting this campaign are Tselepos wines. This family-owned business specializes in producing unique, premium wines from indigenous varieties grown in the most symbolic Greek viticultural areas. In particular, the white variety Moschofilero cultivated in Mantinia in the heart of the Arcadia in the Peloponnese, and Greece’s most famous noble red variety, Agiorgitiko, grown in the heart of Nemea.

Yannis Tselepos along with his wife Amalia Tselepou are the founders and producers of Ktima Tselepos, founded in 1989 in Mantinia, Arcadia. Having been built from humble beginnings, today Tselepos Wines is a leading and renowned wine brand in the Greek market with more than 20 employees across the three wineries. 40% of their total production is exported to markets around the world. The second generation of the family, Andriani Tselepou and Aris Tselepos, are beginning to lead the company into a new modern era, making this family and winery a natural ambassador for PGI Arkadia, PDO Mantinia and PDO Nemea.

“We are extremely excited to have launched the second year of the ‘Glorious Greece: A Wine Odyssey” campaign in China,” says Yannis Tselepos. “It’s been a very difficult start to the year for China in light of the Covid-19 lockdowns so we were really pleased that we were able to move ahead with these events and introduce more Chinese wine lovers to the unique qualities of our premium wines from Greece.”

Launching last July the second phase of the ‘Glorious Greece: A Wine Odyssey’ campaign started with a series of stunning events held at Hellas House complimented by two other events in Chengdu and Guangzhou that brought these appellations, their grapes and their wines to life, to wine consumers across China.

The campaign kicked off on Monday 11th July with a Masterclass for sommeliers and trade experts.  This included an in-depth tasting session, hosted by Nichole Mao, Partner at Nimbility, that charted the different styles and variations of the two signature Greek grapes, Moschofilero and Agiorgitiko, produced in PGI Arkadia, PDO Mantinia and PDO Nemea.

A more focused distributor tasting event took place on Wednesday 13th July.  This was an opportunity for importers, distributors and the trade to taste through this beautiful selection of Greek wines with Nichole Mao presenting the wines.

Two walk around cocktail events took place on Monday 18th and Tuesday 26th of July, welcoming an impressive mix of trade, media, KOL and KOC and immersing them into a journey through Greece’s rich history, culture and contemporary lifestyle. Throughout the course of the events, guests discovered the true beauty of Greece and the exceptional quality, variety and versatility that Greek wines have to offer to today’s modern consumer.

Finally, a tasting on Friday 29th July in Guangzhou and the last tasting on Monday 8th August (Double 8 date bringing luck and fortune to an event!) in Chengdu further built the reputation of Greek wines on the modern silk road between Greece and China.
