Southern Italy’s most esteemed winery, Feudi di San Gregorio, has partnered with Nimbility to build their markets and brand across APAC.

With a strong initial focus on key markets such as Mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore, Nimbility will work with existing distribution partners to support and grow their businesses as well as securing new partners and developing alternative geographic and channel strategies across the region. A large part of Nimbility’s effort will be to build the reputation of Feudi di San Gregorio to the iconic status they hold in Italy and other parts of the world today.

“We have had mixed results in the APAC region over the years,” explains Antonio Capaldo, Founder of Feudi di San Gregorio. “While we are strong in certain areas, we are weak in others. We have partnered with Nimbility to build our core strengths in key markets and develop market penetration, visibility and reputation for Feudi across the region. With their team of experts on the ground in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore, we are now able to offer our distribution partners valuable support in the region where it is required as well as start to expand into markets where we have struggled to gain traction so far. We’re really excited to see what this next chapter will bring!”

As the leading winery in Southern Italy and within Italy’s Top 5 most famous wine brands, Feudi excels in their contemporary outlook and continuous innovation, all the while respecting their family values and above all their vineyards and unique terroirs through sustainable viticulture and protecting their ancestral vines.

The name “Feudi di San Gregorio” recalls the great relationship between the wine tradition and the history of the Church in Italy. Gregory the Great (540-604) – one of the most important Popes in the history of the Church – owned the portion of land (as part of the Patrimonium Sancti Petri) where the winery is located today. He continued to produce wine there after the Roman times.

The Feudi labels reproduce details of mosaics from the Byzantinian Mausoleo di Galla Placidia, located in Ravenna. Realized in the 5th Century, these mosaics have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1996.

Located in an area of Italy so steeped in history, with ancient volcanic soils and the utterly unique and extreme climate conditions of Irpinia, Feudi is a champion of historic indigenous grape varieties and boasts vineyards of over 150 years old that give life to their “Vini Unici” (Unique Wines).

According to Feudi, a Unique Wine comes from a Unique Vineyard. A Unique Vineyard exists only in selected territories, not only because they are suited for viticulture, but also and most importantly because they have been able to preserve - over time - their natural richness and biodiversity. Irpinia is one of the most extraordinary wine terroirs worldwide.

Here, during Feudi’s research, they selected the most intriguing vineyards and they transformed their grapes without any productive compromise. This how their Vini Unici (Unique Wines) were created, telling the most intimate and deeply-rooted Irpinia stories of vines and vineyards.

These wines are Serpico, from the centuries-old vines located in Taurasi; Piano di Montevergine, a Riserva from the homonym vineyard in Taurasi; Sirica, from Sirica grapes, a varietal re-discovered through genetic studies on the Taurasi historic vines; Pàtrimo, a cru from a historic Merlot vineyard born by chance as farmers confused the Merlot with Aglianico; Campanaro, the unique combination of carefully selected high quality Greco and Fiano grapes. Historic indigenous varieties grown in their classic regions are a focus of the core range: Greco di Tufo, Fiano di Avellino, Aglianico (Taurasi) and Falanghia del Sannio.

Viticulture in Campania consists of many “little stories” based on historical traditions, a mosaic composed of communities, memories and cultures, consolidated over time, that Feudi aims to preserve in every possible way. The FeudiStudi wines want to express - though micro-harvest and separate micro-vinification - the incredible potential of Feudi’s most interesting vineyards, selected every year, based on vintage characteristics, among the 800 parcels that they operate.

Every year, these wines are therefore unique pieces, produced in limited edition (about 2.000 bottles) and not proposed to the traditional commercial channels. They chose an exclusive bottle, modern re-interpretation of the first bordelaises in the XVII century. The aim is to continuously discover new ways to express such unique terroirs and the FeudiStudi Crus help to tell Feudi’s story.

One of the cornerstones of Feudi di San Gregorio’s vision is the belief that a bottle of wine and a work of art share the same creative process. The love and passion infused in the cultivation of the vines, the effort in the picking of the grapes and the patient waiting for the wine to age, endow every one of their bottles with a personality of its own, transforming it into an authentic artwork.

In the light of this approach, Feudi di San Gregorio establishes collaborations with affirmed artists and young talents, towards cultivating a fruitful and ongoing exchange of knowledge and creativity between the world of art and that of wine. These are the same sentiments and emotions guiding artists in their creative process in making a sculpture, a photograph, a painting or an installation.

Feudi also represents Southern Italian hospitality at its best. The winery’s hospitality facilities attract more than 30,000 visitors each year, through wine tourism offerings that include a number of tours around the vineyard and winery and guided tasting of Feudi’s most representative wines.

Marennà, a gourmet restaurant located within the winery, is an innovative, though firmly territory-oriented, taste laboratory. It is at the centre of Feudi di San Gregorio research efforts, ranging from the in-house vegetable garden to the Carmasciando cheeses (produced in Upper Irpinia) to the experimental FeudiStudi wines. Marennà spaces are conceived to live a comprehensive wine experience (also thanks to the New Teatro del Vino where over 600 wines can be offered) while offering various wine and food proposals to clientele: tasting or à la carte menu, events for large formats or vertical tastings lovers, aperitifs at the bar with wine or selected cocktails paired with “surprises” from the kitchen.

“We are honoured to be partnering with a winery as esteemed as Feudi di San Gregorio,” says Francesca Martin, Founding Partner of Nimbility. “While many wineries talk about tradition and innovation in the same breath,  fewer are able to legitimately prove that they can equally preserve and achieve both. Feudi is, I believe, quite singular in this respect. On the one hand they champion ancient vines, varieties, terroirs, regions and methods, on the other, they spearhead projects that are ahead of their time. We are really excited by the prospect of building the reputation of this winery across APAC and bringing these beautiful wines to Asian consumers.”
