Nimbility To Chair Vinexpo Asia’s China Market Conference - ‘The Changing Landscape of the China Wine Market: The Path Forward’

Nimbility’s latest China Market Conference during Vinexpo Shanghai 2019, prior to the latest seismic changes in the market

Nimbility will be hosting this year’s much anticipated China Market Conference at Vinexpo Asia titled: ‘The Changing Landscape of the China Wine Market: The Path Forward’. Chaired by Nimbility Co-Founder and CEO Ian Ford, this year’s conference will kick off with an introduction and overview of the fundamental changes that have taken place in the China market over the past five years in the Mainland China wine market.

This will include a look at the sustained downturn of imported wine shipments year on year into China using the topline import statistics from the China customs bureau, summarising the key events that have taken place over the past five years and putting them in context.

There are two primary threads woven into the fabric of the market that need to be understood:

•      The effective ban by China on wine from Australia

•      Covid-19

The impact of these seismic events will be explained along with an explanation of the inventory build and burn cycles in China and how the import statistics can often be distorting when it comes to discussions that relate to the actual consumption of wine in China.

Three key questions will then be looked at in depth by Ford and four panellists chosen by Nimbility specifically to deliver insights across a wide and deep cross-section of the wine industry in China.

The panellists selected are all senior China experts from different segments of the wine world to bring about a rounded and multi-faceted discussion. They include:

•      Craig Aldous, General Manager of VSPT China

•      Olivier Six, CEO of EMW Fine Wines

•      Richard Li, ex-Vice President of ASC, now running both Canaan Winery and Domaine Franco-Chinois in China

•      Nichole Mao, ex-ASC, ex-Villa Maria, now Partner at Nimbility

The questions posed to the panel have been designed to closely examine the new landscape of the China wine market, its implications for producers and wine professionals alike, and how to navigate the path forward. This highly anticipated discussion will be aimed at teasing out further thoughts for market access and brand development across China, as well as delivering deep insights into Chinese consumption behaviour and trends:

•      Are consumers in China genuinely less interested in, and indeed drinking less wine, than they were 5 years ago?

•      What landscape changes have taken place in the past three years that have shifted the contours of consumer demand?

•      Who or what influences or moves the Chinese consumer?

The conference will conclude with a Q&A session (10 minutes) for audience members to pose questions to the panel.
